Tiruchirappalli: Stalin targets NDA at DMK conference

Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would not be able to win in Tamil Nadu “as long as I am there”. He was speaking at the DMK’s 12th conference held at Siruganur in Tiruchirappalli district.

Stalin recalled that the party had announced seven goals at a conference at the same venue ahead of the previous election, and claimed that all seven had been achieved during the five-year term. He also said that even the Centre, which he accused of repeatedly neglecting Tamil Nadu, now calls the state the “number one”.

Highlighting flagship initiatives such as the women’s entitlement assistance, free bus travel for women and the breakfast scheme, Stalin said no one could stop or discontinue these programmes. He argued that if beneficiaries of the DMK government vote, the party’s victory would be assured.

The Chief Minister alleged that other parties were “topping up” DMK schemes and presenting them as their own election promises. He also accused the NDA of trying to “saffronise” Tamil Nadu, saying such efforts would not succeed while the DMK’s “black and red” cadre remained.

Stalin further criticised AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, alleging that he had mortgaged the party to the BJP for self-interest, and claimed the BJP was working to weaken the AIADMK. He urged DMK workers to give importance to the victory of alliance partners’ symbols as well, similar to the focus placed on the DMK’s ‘Rising Sun’ symbol.
