London: Britain is facing an acute gas supply squeeze, with a risk that liquefied natural gas (LNG) could be exhausted within two days, according to national gas data.
The situation is linked to the ongoing war involving the US and Israel against Iran in West Asia, which has heightened fears of a wider global energy shortage.
Reports say refineries in Saudi Arabia and Qatar have been damaged, forcing production to halt. In addition, the Strait of Hormuz has been closed, disrupting about 20% of the world’s oil and gas transportation.
With shipping routes affected, LNG tankers are being diverted from Europe to Asia, leaving European buyers to pay higher prices for gas. Britain’s other gas storage is said to cover only about 12 days, while countries such as Germany and France reportedly have supplies for 90 to 100 days.
