Guwahati: The BJP-led Assam government has credited Rs 9,000 each to 40 lakh women through direct bank transfers.

The assistance was provided under the state’s poverty alleviation programme, ‘Orunodoi’, which has been implemented since 2020. Under the scheme, one eligible woman in a family receives Rs 1,250 every month.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier said that beneficiaries would receive a combined payment covering four months from January, along with an additional amount to mark Assam’s New Year festival, Bohag Bihu.

Following the announcement, the government transferred the total Rs 9,000 per beneficiary to women enrolled under the Orunodoi scheme via their bank accounts.
