New Delhi: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said there is no need for the public to panic over reports of an LPG cylinder shortage, as the Centre is monitoring the situation closely.
The government’s remarks come amid disruptions linked to the conflict involving Israel, the US and Iran, which has raised concerns over fuel availability. As part of measures to manage demand, households have been asked to book domestic LPG cylinders only after 25 days instead of 21 days, and restrictions have been placed on the supply of commercial cylinders.
To curb hoarding, the Centre has invoked provisions under the Essential Commodities Act. Authorities have warned of strict action against those who stock LPG cylinders and sell them in the black market.
Goyal said the government is taking necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability across the country. He added that despite global energy-sector stress due to the West Asia situation, India is not facing any fuel shortage, and officials have been asked to remain vigilant to maintain supplies.
