Iran’s new ruler and cleric, Mojtaba Khamenei, is safe and in good health, according to a statement shared by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s son, Yousef Pezeshkian.

The update comes amid ongoing attacks on Iran by US and Israeli forces. The report said Iran’s previous ruler Khamenei and his family were killed, and Israel had earlier warned it would target any newly chosen ruler.

US media outlets had reported that Mojtaba Khamenei was seriously injured in a recent strike, while Iran had not issued an official response.

In a post on Telegram, Yousef Pezeshkian said he received information that Mojtaba had been wounded and immediately contacted friends who were in touch with him. They told him the new ruler was healthy and that there was no problem, he wrote, adding that he thanked God for the news.
