MDMK leaders, at an urgent high-level committee meeting in Chennai, pressed for contesting Assembly seats allotted by the DMK in the upcoming election. They also proposed that the party could contest one constituency using its own election symbol.

The DMK has begun seat-sharing talks with its alliance partners, including the MDMK. The MDMK has been urging the DMK for more constituencies and has also sought permission to contest under its own symbol.

However, the DMK has been indicating that MDMK candidates should contest on the DMK’s Rising Sun symbol in the seats allotted to the party. As a result, a final decision on the number of seats and the specific constituencies has not yet been reached.

To take a firm stand on alliance negotiations and seat allocation, the MDMK convened the urgent meeting at its headquarters in Egmore, Chennai. Discussions focused on the ongoing talks with the DMK and the symbol to be used this time.

Party functionaries said the view expressed in the meeting was to contest only one seat on the MDMK’s own symbol while using the Rising Sun symbol in the remaining seats, citing the need to retain the party’s registration recognition. They added that official announcements on the decisions and the timing of further talks with the DMK would be issued soon.
