Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday accused the Congress of politicising a global crisis, referring to the ongoing situation in West Asia. He made the remarks while addressing a public meeting in Ernakulam, Kerala.
Modi said the developments in West Asia have caused concern, noting that lakhs of Indians are working in the region. He asserted that whenever Indian citizens face difficulties abroad, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government uses “all its strength” to ensure their safety.
He said Indians caught amid the conflict have been provided necessary protection and support. Modi also expressed satisfaction that India’s friendly countries in the Gulf are safeguarding the interests of Indian citizens, and said Indian embassies are working round the clock to provide food, accommodation and security.
Calling it unfortunate, Modi alleged that Congress was issuing provocative statements with the intention of creating disruption. He claimed such remarks could put Indians at risk and were aimed at triggering criticism against him.
In the same address, Modi urged voters in Kerala to give the BJP-led alliance an opportunity, saying the state had given chances to Congress and the Left for over seven decades and would see a “developed Kerala” if his alliance was elected.
