A petrol bomb was hurled at the office associated with Sivaganga MP Karthi Chidambaram and former Union minister P. Chidambaram in Karaikudi on Tuesday morning, triggering tension in the area.
The office, located on First Street in Subramaniyapuram, was found to have been targeted when party workers arrived and opened it in the morning. They were shocked to notice signs of the attack.
Karaikudi Congress MLA Mangudi and party members visited the spot soon after and informed the police. Sivaganga district Superintendent of Police Sivaprasad later inspected the scene.
As there are no CCTV cameras installed at the MP’s office, police are examining surveillance footage from nearby buildings. Investigators are also working to identify those behind the attack and determine the reason for it.
