Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple development projects worth Rs 5,650 crore at an official event in Tiruchirappalli.

Modi arrived in Tiruchirappalli around 4 pm from Kerala and received a ceremonial welcome at the airport. He then travelled by helicopter to Panchappur, where the government function was held.

Among the key announcements, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a Bharat Petroleum Corporation project to supply natural gas through pipelines in the Nilgiris and Erode districts, with an investment of Rs 3,680 crore. He also dedicated to the nation an IndianOil crude oil blending unit set up at Manali near Chennai at a cost of Rs 1,490 crore.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Modi inaugurated 89 rural roads spanning 370 km in Tamil Nadu. He also laid the foundation stone for a green bypass on National Highway 81 near Gangaikonda Cholapuram.

The Prime Minister flagged off two Amrit Bharat Express trains, two express trains and one passenger train service. Union ministers Piyush Goyal and L Murugan, Tamil Nadu minister Thangam Thennarasu, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran were among those present. Modi is scheduled to address an NDA public meeting in Tiruchirappalli at 6.30 pm.
