New Delhi: BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday strongly rebutted Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks, saying allegations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi compromised on the nation’s interests were without any basis.

Speaking during the Lok Sabha discussion on a motion seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla, Prasad said the Prime Minister would “never compromise” for any reason. He urged parties not to misuse Parliament for personal political battles.

Prasad alleged that the motion against the Speaker was brought to satisfy the ego of certain leaders or groups, rather than for institutional reasons.

Referring to past disruptions, he recalled instances such as the removal of 11 MPs over allegations of taking money to ask questions and an episode in which pepper spray was used in the House. He said he had not seen “dramatic protests” of the kind being witnessed now despite such earlier incidents.
