Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the Lok Sabha debate on a no-confidence motion moved by the INDIA bloc seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla.
The opposition alliance, including the Congress and the DMK, has alleged that the Speaker has been functioning in a one-sided manner and brought the motion demanding his removal.
Speaking in the House, Rijiju said that anyone—whether the Prime Minister, the Leader of Opposition or any MP—must obtain the Speaker’s permission to speak. He claimed Rahul Gandhi did not follow this basic rule.
Rijiju also said MPs from the ruling alliance had never torn papers and thrown them at the Speaker, nor undermined the dignity of the House. He alleged that Rahul raised unrelated issues, prompting the Speaker to intervene.
Referring to an incident he described as unprecedented in his experience, Rijiju said Rahul ran from his seat to hug the Prime Minister while he was seated, and also gestured at another MP in the House, questioning whether such conduct was befitting of an opposition leader.
