Washington: US President Donald Trump described the ongoing war involving Iran as a “short pleasure trip” and said it would end soon. He also issued a warning that Iran would face grave consequences if it attempted to block crude oil supplies.
The conflict, involving the US and Israel against Iran, has continued beyond expectations and has crossed 11 days. In recent strikes, Israel reportedly hit Iranian oil storage depots and refineries, causing heavy damage and fires.
Following the attacks, Iran warned that oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz could be targeted. Trump said any move by Iran to disrupt crude oil supply would invite retaliation far greater than what has occurred so far, and claimed Iran could face attacks “20 times” more intense.
He further said the US could destroy Iran’s infrastructure to a point where it could not recover, while adding that he did not want such an outcome. Responding, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesperson Ali Mohammad Naini said it would be Iran—not the US—that decides how and when the war ends.
Officials have reported that so far 1,332 people have been killed in Iran, 397 in Lebanon and 11 in Israel.
