The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Rajendran, a BSNL officer currently serving as Principal General Manager in the Chennai circle, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh through his mother-in-law’s bank account.

Rajendran, a native of Veppilaipatti village near Sattur in Virudhunagar district, had earlier served as Principal General Manager in Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala between 2017 and 2020. During that period, a Kerala-based contractor, identified as Dilip, undertook cable wire-laying works valued at over Rs 7 crore.

According to the complaint, Rajendran allegedly took an initial Rs 10,000 from the contractor to sign files related to releasing payments for the work. He is further accused of receiving a cheque for Rs 1.90 lakh as bribe through the bank account of his mother-in-law, Janaki.

BSNL telecom officials reportedly lodged a complaint with the CBI. During preliminary verification, the agency said it found indications of bribery and conducted searches in Madurai, Virudhunagar and Chennai, including at Rajendran’s residence and a BSNL office in Purasawalkam. Based on documents seized and examined, the CBI registered the case.
