Tehran said hundreds of oil tankers remain stuck in the Strait of Hormuz as the conflict in West Asia intensifies.

US President Donald Trump had earlier said the US Navy would provide protection to vessels in the region.

In a social media post, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright claimed the Navy had successfully escorted an oil tanker through the Strait of Hormuz. The post was deleted within minutes.

The White House later clarified that the US Navy had not escorted any oil tanker through the strait.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) rejected the US claim, saying no US naval ship had dared to approach the Strait of Hormuz and calling the statement a blatant lie.
