A major security lapse has been reported at the Puducherry Raj Bhavan after a student allegedly climbed in through a gate and ended up sleeping inside the Governor’s son’s room.
According to police, the incident occurred on March 9 around 10.45 pm, when Jharkhand student Hardik Shah entered the premises by climbing over the second grill gate on Kurusukuppam Road. The ease with which he accessed a high-security zone has triggered shock and concern.
Senior police officers conducted an intensive inquiry at the Raj Bhavan the same night, questioning IRBN personnel and other staff on duty without allowing them to leave the premises. During the probe, a policeman said he had seen the student walking on the first-floor corridor.
The policeman reportedly told investigators he did not suspect the student because he looked “fair” and had a North Indian appearance, leading him to assume the person was a relative of Governor Kailashnath. The statement reportedly angered and stunned senior officers.
Following the incident, officials said those found negligent were temporarily shifted to the armed reserve, and armed police have been deployed at the second entry point used by the student.
