Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian amid heightened war-related tensions in the Middle East.
According to the Prime Minister, he conveyed deep concern over the escalation of violence in Iran, the loss of civilian lives and damage to infrastructure.
Modi also stressed the need to ensure the safety of Indians abroad and called for uninterrupted movement of goods and energy supplies.
He said the crisis should not be addressed through war, and urged that solutions be pursued through dialogue and diplomatic efforts.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs said around 9,000 Indians are currently in Iran and that the government is continuously taking steps to ensure their safety.
