Tehran: A report published by the UK newspaper The Sun has claimed that Iran’s newly appointed leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is in a coma and has lost a leg following a US airstrike.

According to the report, the ongoing conflict involving the US and Israel against Iran—linked to disputes over the nuclear deal—has entered its second week. It further states that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in an aerial attack, after which his son Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, assumed leadership.

The report alleges that Mojtaba Khamenei sustained severe injuries in the same strike, including the loss of one leg and serious trauma to the abdomen and liver. It claims he is being treated under heavy security at Sina University Hospital in Tehran.

It also says Iran’s Health Minister, Mohammad Reza Zafarghandi, described as a senior surgeon, is overseeing the treatment. The report notes that Mojtaba’s first statement as leader—broadcast on Iranian state television—was read by a newsreader rather than by him, raising questions internationally.

However, The Sun added that due to internet restrictions in Iran and tight security around the leader, the information could not be independently confirmed.
