Former Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi on Wednesday assumed office as the 22nd Governor of West Bengal.
The state is currently governed by the Trinamool Congress under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Ravi’s appointment comes after the sudden resignation of outgoing Governor Ananda Bose on March 5, which was accepted by President Droupadi Murmu.
Ravi had formally bid farewell in Tamil Nadu a day earlier before travelling to West Bengal to take charge.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata, where Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Sujoy Paul administered the oath of office.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Speaker Biman Banerjee and others attended the event.
