Sasikala on Thursday announced the name and election symbol of her newly formed political party, and said it will contest the upcoming Assembly election. She made the announcement while speaking to reporters at Poes Garden in Chennai.
The party has been named All India Revolutionary Leader People’s Progressive Kazhagam, and its symbol will be Coconut Grove. Sasikala said candidates under her banner would contest in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry using the same symbol.
Referring to the party’s origins, she said she had joined a party started by cadres. She alleged that the DMK government was “squeezing” the people of Tamil Nadu, and said this prompted her to introduce a new party flag and step into active politics.
Stressing the need for collective strength, Sasikala said “a single tree cannot become a grove,” adding that her party would face the election as part of an alliance. She said the party would work with like-minded parties going forward.
