Hyderabad: A total of 124 social media accounts that promoted online gambling and real-money gaming apps have been removed in Telangana.
Online gambling and betting-based games are banned in the state, and both using such apps and advertising them are punishable offences. Officials said the action follows monitoring of promotional content shared online.
Over the past month, the identified accounts had posted more than 500 advertisements linked to online gambling. The posts carried enticing claims such as earning money from home, assured income, bonuses and referral commissions.
Authorities noted that the promotions were designed to attract young people in particular. Details of the accounts were shared with the respective social media platforms, which then removed them.
Police said investigations are continuing to identify those who operated the accounts and to trace financial transaction channels connected to the promotions.
