China has decided to provide Rs 1.84 crore as emergency humanitarian assistance to Iran following reports that schoolgirls were killed in a US attack, according to official statements from Beijing.
The incident relates to a joint US and Israeli strike on Iran on February 28. A missile hit a girls’ primary school in Minab, with reports saying up to 180 students were killed and many others injured.
A US military inquiry reportedly found that the school building was targeted by mistake due to outdated information. China condemned the strike and expressed condolences to the victims’ families.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said attacks on civilians—especially children—are strongly opposed, and that striking schools violates international humanitarian law and crosses basic humanitarian limits.
China’s Red Cross Society said it will route the Rs 1.84 crore assistance through the Iranian Red Crescent, with the funds intended to be distributed to the parents of the students who were killed.
