Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the Union government is working to minimise the impact of war, while accusing the Congress of creating fear among the public.

Speaking at a public meeting in Silchar in Assam’s Cachar district, Modi made the remarks after inaugurating development projects valued at Rs 23,550 crore.

He alleged that during Congress rule, Assam’s youth were pushed towards violence and terrorism, and claimed the party had neglected the northern states. He said Congress had failed to act like a responsible political party.

Modi said the BJP’s guiding principle is to prioritise those who have been left behind on the path of development. He also said that while Congress viewed border areas as the country’s “last villages”, his government considers them the “first villages”.

Referring to the Barak Valley, he said its strength as a former hub of trade had been weakened, and claimed the BJP’s “double-engine” government is focused on steps to change the situation. He further alleged that Congress lacks a long-term vision for Assam or the country and instead relies on rumours and misinformation.
