Tamil Nadu has announced an electricity subsidy of Rs 2 per unit for hotels, tea shops and cloud kitchens that are using electric stoves, citing an ongoing cooking gas shortage.

TNEB Chairman Radhakrishnan told reporters in Chennai that the concession will remain in force until the gas supply situation returns to normal.

He also said farmers can sell vegetables and fruits without restrictions at Uzhavar Sandhais, and that the state is taking steps to prevent wastage of produce as restaurants have reduced their purchases.

On other concerns, he said prior approval from the Pollution Control Board is not required for using firewood. He added that petrol and diesel stocks are available for nine days with no shortage, and domestic LPG supply is expected to last till the end of the month, urging people not to believe rumours.
