Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai on Saturday said the state’s politics could see a “turning point” as elections draw closer. He made the remarks during an interaction with reporters at his residence in Kalapatti, Coimbatore.
Referring to the sexual assault of a minor in Vilathikulam, Annamalai alleged police negligence and said the accused were yet to be arrested. He said the Chief Minister should “hang his head in shame” over the handling of the case.
Annamalai also questioned reports of petrol and diesel scarcity, asking whether such a shortage existed anywhere else in India. He alleged that rumours were being spread to create fear, and claimed the DGP and the Home Secretary were giving misleading information to convince the public.
On the political front, he said elections could be announced at any time and asserted that his alliance was strong. He pointed to strains within the DMK-led alliance, citing the Communist party’s exit and seat-sharing issues involving MDMK and VCK.
He said there was nothing wrong in seeking a CBI probe in the Karur matter and maintained that the film “Jananayagan” had no connection with the BJP. He reiterated that the AIADMK was strong in the NDA and said EPS would be the Chief Ministerial candidate, adding that he had not asked for a seat and would focus on campaigning.
