An accident involving an electric bus in Nepal has left seven pilgrims from Tamil Nadu dead and several others injured, according to police.

The bus, carrying 16 pilgrims, reportedly lost control and plunged into a ravine in Gorkha district of Gandaki Province. Police said the vehicle was returning from the Manakamana temple when the crash occurred.

The deceased have been identified as Muthukumar (58), Meenakshi (59), Sivagami (53), Meena (58), Tamilarasi (60), Anamalika (58) and Vijaya (57). All seven were reported to be from Pollachi in Coimbatore district.

Seven others sustained serious injuries and were rescued and admitted to hospital for treatment. Some are said to be in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll could rise. The bus assistant was among the injured, while the driver survived. An investigation is under way.
