The US Embassy in Baghdad has urged American citizens in Iraq to leave the country immediately, citing heightened security risks linked to the fallout from Iran’s continuing attacks.
The advisory comes as the conflict involving US and Israeli forces’ strikes on Iran has crossed 15 days, with thousands reported killed and no clear path to a halt in fighting. In Iraq, a drone attack attributed to Iran reportedly killed six US soldiers.
In its statement, the embassy warned of the continuing danger from missiles, drones and rockets in Iraqi airspace. It also asked people not to attempt to visit the embassy in Baghdad or the consulate in Erbil.
The embassy said Iraq’s airspace has been closed, and added that the US government would provide assistance to Americans trying to depart the country.
