BJP leaders in Delhi have reportedly reached out to actor-politician Vijay, pressing him to decide whether he will contest alone or join the NDA alliance to take on the DMK. According to sources in Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay did not give a clear reply and has remained silent.
TVK circles claim the party believes it can secure around 25% vote share even if it contests independently, and that the share could rise if Vijay intensifies campaigning closer to the election. They say this prospect has created anxiety within the NDA camp.
As per the same sources, Vijay—who has been listed as a witness in the Karur CBI case—was called to Delhi again for questioning. During the visit, TVK election campaign management general secretary Aadhav Arjuna and Vijay’s friend Vishnu Reddy reportedly met BJP leaders near the Delhi Golf Club on the night of March 14.
The BJP leaders are said to have argued that TVK entering the fray changes the opposition vote arithmetic, and that a solo TVK contest could make it easier for the DMK to win. They also reportedly cited the example of Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and urged Vijay to join the NDA, while warning against what they described as “misleading” surveys.
TVK sources say these points were conveyed to Vijay, but he has not taken a decision. His continued silence, they add, has pushed the party into heightened confusion.
