Pakistan and Afghanistan are facing heightened tensions amid a continuing dispute linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
According to the report, Pakistan carried out air strikes on positions near the Afghan border, saying the operation damaged TTP centres and Taliban infrastructure. Islamabad has been urging the Taliban administration in Kabul to curb the group’s activities, alleging it operates from Afghan soil.
Afghanistan has rejected the allegation, saying it has no connection with the TTP and declining to take action as demanded by Pakistan. The disagreement has fuelled a cycle of retaliation between the two neighbours.
In the latest escalation, Afghanistan reportedly carried out a drone attack in Rawalpindi. Pakistan responded with strikes in eastern Afghanistan and in Kandahar, with the Pakistani military claiming key infrastructure in Kandahar was successfully destroyed.
Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said the Pakistani bombardment did not cause major damage, even as the standoff pushed war-like tensions to a peak.
