Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has warned that families seeking a cooking gas (LPG) cylinder as dowry and harassing a bride will face strict action, including disconnection of their gas connection.
Officials said the warning comes amid concerns of possible fuel shortages following disruptions in crude oil supply linked to conflicts in West Asia. The situation has triggered panic buying of LPG cylinders across the country, with large crowds also reported at petrol pumps.
Under the state’s plan, authorities will closely monitor distribution and limit supply to one cylinder per family per month. The government said the measures are aimed at preventing misuse of cylinders and curbing dowry-related demands.
The announcement was made under the BJP-led Rajasthan government headed by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.
