Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday called for communal harmony in Tamil Nadu, saying people from minority and majority communities must live as brothers and that unity among Muslims should continue.
Speaking at an Iftar (fast-breaking) event held in Kilpauk, Chennai, Stalin said the DMK’s relationship with the Muslim community dates back to the party’s founding and would remain enduring. He added that no one could break that bond.
Stalin also highlighted the role of women as a key strength of the DMK, pointing to welfare initiatives centred on women. He said the party’s strength would grow further with the support of women from the Muslim community.
Turning to politics, Stalin said various minority organisations were present together on the stage and claimed the DMK had enabled such coordination. He criticised AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami for not even commenting on violence against minorities across the country.
Stalin alleged that Palaniswami had “pawned his conscience” to the BJP along with his party, and questioned how minority rights and security could be protected if the AIADMK aligned with forces that, he claimed, incite hatred against minorities. He also accused some leaders of attending Iftar for a day but going silent when Muslims face difficulties.
