The model code of conduct has come into force across Tamil Nadu following the announcement of the State Assembly election schedule.
The dates were announced on Sunday evening by Chief Election Commissioner Gnanesh Kumar for elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and West Bengal, along with the Union Territory of Puducherry.
Soon after the announcement, government offices began removing photographs and displays related to the Chief Minister’s programmes. At the Secretariat entrance, images placed for public viewing were taken down, and similar removals were reported from the Secretariat and other government offices.
With the code in place, the Chief Minister and ministers are not permitted to announce new schemes, lay foundation stones for new projects, or extend fresh assistance using government funds. Government-funded advertisements are also prohibited.
Government vehicles and offices cannot be used for election-related purposes. However, routine administrative work may continue, and ongoing government schemes can be managed as usual.
