A theft of gold jewellery valued at around Rs 2 crore has been reported from the Travancore royal palace in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, triggering shock and concern.
The Travancore royal family, which ruled parts of central and southern Kerala before Independence, uses the Kowdiar Palace in Thiruvananthapuram as its official residence.
According to a complaint filed by senior royal family member Aswathi Thirunal Gouri Bai, 12 ornaments were stolen from a cupboard in her bedroom during October and November last year.
The missing items reportedly include gold chains and stone-studded rings, totalling about 40 sovereigns. Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
