Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday welcomed the Archaeological Survey of India’s approval to conduct excavations at eight locations, including the 11th phase at Keezhadi.

In a statement, Stalin said the clearance was obtained after sustained pressure and repeated letters to the Union government. He described the decision, which came after months of delay, as a victory for the state’s perseverance.

The approved sites include Keezhadi, Adichanallur and Nagapattinam, among others, according to the Chief Minister.

Stalin also said the state would continue to push for the release of the Keezhadi research report, which he alleged the BJP-led Union government has withheld from publication.
