The Supreme Court has said it will hear on April 14 an appeal filed by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami in a case alleging suppression of asset details in his election affidavit.
The case relates to the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, when Palaniswami contested from Edappadi. A complainant, Milani, alleged that he concealed asset particulars and provided false information in his nomination papers.
A Salem court, while hearing the complaint, directed the police to conduct an inquiry and register a case if a prima facie case was found. Palaniswami’s petition seeking to quash that order was dismissed by the Madras High Court.
He then moved the Supreme Court in appeal, following which an interim stay was granted on further proceedings. The matter had remained pending without being taken up for final hearing.
Milani’s side later sought an early hearing before a bench led by Justice Vikram Nath. Accepting the request, the Supreme Court announced that the appeal will be heard on April 14.
