The Rajya Sabha has a total strength of 250 members—238 elected from states and Union Territories and 12 nominated by the President. Members serve six-year terms, with elections held every two years for a portion of seats.
In this round, 26 candidates were elected unopposed. Elections were held for the remaining 11 seats—five in Bihar, four in Odisha and two in Haryana. The NDA swept all five seats in Bihar. In Odisha, the BJP won two seats, the Biju Janata Dal won one, and a BJP-backed Independent won one. In Haryana, the BJP and the Congress won one seat each.
Among the 26 unopposed seats, the NDA won 13, including seven for the BJP. The remaining NDA seats went to its allies, including Shiv Sena, Indian Republican Party (Athawale), Nationalist Congress Party, AIADMK, PMK and United People’s Party Liberal.
After these results, the NDA’s tally in the Rajya Sabha stands at 141 members, while the INDIA bloc has 75 and other parties have 27. Two seats are currently vacant, taking the present strength of the House to 245 members.
