Tamil Nadu minister Raghupathi on Tuesday said actor Rajinikanth cannot be intimidated into submission, responding to questions from reporters in Chennai.

The minister alleged that attempts were being made to stage a “fake drama” suggesting women are unsafe, claiming it was aimed at undermining the DMK-led alliance after sensing strong support from women.

Raghupathi also said women were coming forward to file complaints because they have confidence in the government, and referred to police statistics on crime during the previous AIADMK regime.

On Rajinikanth, he described the actor as a superstar with a strong fan base and said the DMK had no need to threaten him. He added that Rajinikanth would respond only to affection, not intimidation, and recalled that the actor had spoken out in 1996.

Commenting on the Karur-related matter, Raghupathi said the CBI had summoned minister Senthil Balaji following certain allegations, and asserted that Senthil Balaji had the courage to provide an appropriate explanation to the agency.
