The Election Commission has announced that workers and employees in Tamil Nadu must be given a paid holiday on the day of polling for the Assembly election.

The Assembly election schedule for five states, including Tamil Nadu, was recently released. As per the schedule, Tamil Nadu will vote in a single phase on April 23.

With the Model Code of Conduct in force, the Commission said monitoring and enforcement activities are being intensified across the state.

The paid-holiday directive has been issued to ensure that all eligible voters are able to cast their votes without missing work.

Earlier, April 23 had already been declared a general holiday across Tamil Nadu, applicable to government offices, private establishments and educational institutions.
