TVK chief Vijay held a meeting with party functionaries in Chennai on Sunday to discuss election preparations, including candidate selection for the Puducherry Assembly polls and campaign plans for the Tamil Nadu Assembly election.
According to party sources, Puducherry will vote in a single phase for all 30 constituencies on April 9, with nominations to be filed by March 23. As part of the selection process, 50 TVK functionaries who wish to contest were called to the party office at Panaiyur in Chennai.
TVK general secretary Anand conducted interviews, after which 30 shortlisted candidates were selected. Vijay then met the shortlisted candidates individually for consultations.
Vijay later held discussions with senior functionaries including Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, Sengottaiyan and Nirmal Kumar. The meeting also reviewed the process for selecting TVK candidates for Tamil Nadu and finalised broad plans for Vijay’s campaign tour.
Party sources said a list of TVK candidates for Puducherry may be released either on Monday or on March 20. Vijay is also said to be planning to focus on candidate selection this month and campaign in Puducherry until April 7, while also covering neighbouring districts such as Villupuram and Cuddalore, with a total of 25 campaign days planned across Tamil Nadu.
