Union minister and BJP’s Tamil Nadu election in-charge Piyush Goyal is set to arrive in Chennai on March 19, with talks aimed at finalising the seat-sharing arrangement with the AIADMK.
With the Assembly election polling date announced, parties in Tamil Nadu have stepped up campaign preparations. The ruling DMK is continuing discussions within its alliance and allocating constituencies, while the AIADMK’s seat-sharing deal with the BJP is yet to be formally signed.
BJP leaders believe Goyal’s visit will increase the chances of a decisive round of talks with AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS). Senior functionaries said that after discussions on March 19, the agreement could be signed on March 20.
Party sources also indicated that the BJP may seek up to 30 seats and could contest in key constituencies in Chennai. With nomination filing expected to begin on March 30, major parties are likely to announce key decisions in the coming days.
