New Delhi: A group of 204 people, including retired IAS and IPS officers, former military officials, diplomats and lawyers, has issued an open letter condemning Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s conduct during a protest inside the Parliament complex.

The letter refers to a demonstration held on March 12 against an alleged cooking gas shortage. During the protest, Rahul Gandhi and some MPs were seen sitting on the Parliament steps and having tea and biscuits.

According to the signatories, the Lok Sabha Speaker had imposed restrictions, yet the protest was held in the Parliament premises. They argued that this amounted to disregarding the authority and dignity of Parliament.

The letter further said the Parliament steps are not a venue for “political drama” and that such behaviour is not befitting of MPs. It called on Rahul Gandhi to apologise, stating that respect shown to the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha should extend to all parts of the Parliament complex.

The signatories also urged MPs to act with a sense of responsibility, warning that such actions reflect a lack of respect for democratic institutions and a tendency to treat Parliament as a political stage rather than a forum for debate.
