Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the Rajya Sabha and paid tribute to members whose terms are ending, saying their experience will continue to guide public life even after they leave the House.

Speaking during the session, Modi said every MP plays a distinct role in debates on a range of issues. He told retiring members that a political journey can be lifelong and that there is “no full stop in politics.”

He cited senior leaders such as H D Deve Gowda, Mallikarjun Kharge and Sharad Pawar, noting that they have devoted much of their lives to parliamentary service. Modi urged newly elected MPs to learn from such experienced leaders and their sense of responsibility.

The Prime Minister also praised Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh for conducting proceedings calmly and without bias. He described Harivansh as a capable writer and a hard worker who has travelled widely to fulfil his duties.

Modi appealed to new MPs to uphold the dignity of Parliament and draw inspiration from seasoned members, adding that guidance from seniors is vital to strengthen democratic traditions. He also remarked that moments of lively humour and satire, once associated with the House, have become fewer in recent times.
