North Korea’s state media has reported that the ruling bloc led by Kim Jong Un secured 99.93% of the votes in the country’s parliamentary election held on March 15.

The report comes amid long-standing international criticism that elections in North Korea are largely symbolic. The country is widely seen as operating under strict controls, with limited information about internal developments reaching the outside world.

According to the account, candidates are typically selected by the ruling Workers’ Party, and elections are conducted without meaningful opposition. In many constituencies, only a single candidate is presented, with voters expected to approve.

The results also highlighted the election of Kim Jong Un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, who was reported to have won from the Kalimkil constituency.
