Tehran: Iran’s new ruler Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has warned that the United States and Israel will face serious consequences over the death of Iran’s national security chief Ali Larijani.
The warning comes as fighting between Iran and joint US-Israeli forces has continued for 20 days. According to the report, Israel has been carrying out strikes targeting key Iranian leaders, and Larijani, 67, was killed in one such attack.
In a social media post, Mojtaba Khamenei said “every drop of spilled blood has its due,” adding that those responsible would “soon pay the price.” He described Larijani as a man of knowledge, foresight and wisdom, and said he had served the Islamic system at various levels for nearly five years.
Separately, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed that Intelligence Minister Ismail Khatib was killed in Israeli attacks, calling it a “cowardly assassination.” He also expressed grief over the deaths of Ali Larijani and Aziz Nasirzadeh, and conveyed condolences to their families.
