New Delhi: The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has reported that 32% of Rajya Sabha MPs have pending criminal cases, and 14% are crore-level asset holders, based on an analysis of members’ affidavits.

ADR said it examined affidavits filed by 229 of the 233 Rajya Sabha members. It noted that one seat from Jharkhand is currently vacant, and affidavits of three MPs were not available for review. The study also included affidavits of 37 recently elected members.

According to the findings, 73 of the 229 MPs analysed have criminal cases pending against them, and 36 face serious charges. One MP has declared a pending murder case, while four MPs reported cases related to attempted murder. ADR also flagged three MPs with pending cases linked to crimes against women.

Party-wise, ADR said criminal cases were reported by 27 MPs from the BJP, 12 from the Congress, four each from the Trinamool Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, and three each from the CPI(M) and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

On assets, ADR said 31 MPs (14%) have declared wealth exceeding Rs 100 crore. It put the average assets of Rajya Sabha MPs at Rs 120.69 crore, with YSR Congress MPs having the highest average at Rs 522.63 crore. The report also identified BRS MP Pandi Parthasarathi as the wealthiest, declaring assets of over Rs 5,300 crore.
