Islamabad: Pakistan Army chief Gen Asim Munir has issued a strong warning that Afghanistan will not be allowed to be used as a base for terrorist activity against Pakistan.
Tensions between Pakistan and neighbouring Afghanistan have escalated in recent months. Islamabad has accused Afghanistan of providing shelter to militants of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
After meeting Shia Muslim clerics in Rawalpindi, Munir said Pakistan launched an anti-terror military operation named “Ghazab Lil Haq” last month. He said the army is determined to eliminate militants operating against Pakistan and dismantle their infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Pakistan and Afghanistan have temporarily halted hostilities ahead of Ramadan, following requests from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar. The pause was announced after the Afghan government alleged that a recent Pakistani attack in Kabul killed 400 people.
