Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district have arrested two men for allegedly sharing information about Hindu temples and other key locations with a group linked to Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI.
According to officials, Indian intelligence agencies received inputs that the suspects were in touch with a Pakistan-linked individual through WhatsApp and other social media platforms. Following this, intelligence teams and the Anti-Terrorism Squad conducted a search operation and detained the duo from the Dhaulana area.
During questioning, the arrested men were identified as Azeem Rana from Peepli Hata near Dhaulana and Azad Rajput from Jai village in Meerut district.
SP Kunwar Gyanjay Singh said the two had been in contact since December 2025 with a person identified as Sajjad Bhatti, described as linked to the ISI. Police allege the suspects sent photographs, videos and location details of a temple and other important places near the West Delhi Metro station area, and also shared information about a temple in the Bisrakh area of Greater Noida.
Investigators suspect the information may have been intended for planning attacks on temples, and are probing whether it was part of preparations for a major terror strike, the officer added.
