Seat-sharing talks between the DMK and Congress in Puducherry remain unresolved even as the alliance has already finalised its arrangement in Tamil Nadu, Congress election in-charge Girish Chodankar said in Chennai.

With no agreement yet, candidates from both parties have been filing nominations separately. The last date for filing nominations is March 23, and party candidates are proceeding with filings while expecting a final deal that could allow withdrawals later.

Chodankar said negotiations have been going on for a long time. He noted that while the DMK traditionally leads the alliance in Tamil Nadu, Congress has maintained that it leads the alliance in Puducherry.

Citing past patterns, he said Congress usually contests 21 seats and the DMK 9 in Puducherry. However, he alleged that the DMK is now pressing to be allotted more “important” constituencies.

He added that both sides have formed teams to continue discussions, and that the DMK has proposed 14 seats for itself, with the remaining three seats to be given to other alliance parties.
