Hindu Makkal Katchi has urged the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to allot it seats to contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election. The party said it has conveyed its demand to Union Minister Amit Shah and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS).

The demand was raised during a party-led “Tamil Nadu Recovery Conference” held in Chennai, which focused on its call to defeat what it described as the “Dravidian model” government. Party functionaries in charge of all 234 Assembly constituencies, along with state and district office-bearers, attended the event.

A resolution was adopted seeking an opportunity to contest in five Assembly constituencies as part of the NDA. The party said it wants to contest either on its own symbol or on the AIADMK’s ‘Two Leaves’ or the BJP’s ‘Lotus’ symbol.

The party also said it has been a long-time ideological and organisational supporter within the NDA and has worked at the grassroots to strengthen nationalist and cultural values across the state. In a letter to the BJP and AIADMK leadership, party office-bearers additionally sought the allotment of at least one constituency to party leader Arjun Sampath to contest the election.
