Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly took part in the BJP’s Central Election Committee meeting in Delhi on March 18, convened to finalise candidates for upcoming Assembly elections in several states.
The meeting focused on selecting BJP nominees for Puducherry, Kerala, Assam and West Bengal, with party leaders presenting names constituency-wise. Reports said Modi actively intervened, seeking reasons for replacing sitting winners, asking whether there was anti-incumbency, and questioning the rationale behind new selections.
During the discussions, Modi also shared concerns about fuel supplies amid the ongoing West Asia conflict. He is said to have briefed party leaders on disruptions affecting the movement of crude oil and natural gas, while noting that he has been in touch with global leaders and consulting international political and energy experts.
With crude prices rising sharply, many countries have seen increases in cooking gas, petrol and diesel prices. Given India’s large population and high demand, Modi reportedly cautioned that price pressures could emerge domestically, and said preparations were underway to manage the situation with minimal impact on the public.
