Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian, urging steps to ensure safe and uninterrupted maritime movement and overall security.
With the conflict involving the US and Israel continuing into its 22nd day, the two leaders discussed the need to restore peace in the region and concerns over disruptions to global supply chains.
In a post on X, Modi said he conveyed greetings for Ramadan and the start of spring, and noted that both leaders expressed hope that the festive period would bring peace, stability and prosperity to West Asia.
Modi also said condemnation was expressed over attacks on Iran’s key infrastructure, warning that such incidents can destabilise the region and affect global supply chains.
He added that he appreciated measures taken by the Iranian government to ensure the safety and welfare of Indians in Iran, as the impact of the war in West Asia continues to intensify.
